ZinCo roof garden chosen for integrated project on garden island of Mainau, Germany

by Brianna Crandall — September 21, 2016 — Germany-based green roof provider ZinCo was selected to provide its system build-up Roof Garden for an extensive integrated green roof project on Mainau Island in Lake Constance in southern Germany. The historic garden island is known for its excellent environmental practices.

The newly established restaurant Comturey Keller next to the small port of Mainau Island has ground connection on three sides of the building and is entirely integrated into the surrounding landscape.

Thanks to the ZinCo system, the Mainau landscape architects could design and plan with great creativity on the almost 1500 m² surface of the new restaurant. ZinCo says the project illustrates the wide variety of green roofs, and released a video on its site to inspire architects, construction planners, and others interested in green roofs.

ZinCo’s video titled Perfectly Integrated – a Park Landscape on the Roof displays the historic, picturesque island with its Baroque castle and sweeping views of the lake, and showcases the integrated roof garden project next to the Comturey Tower.
