Siemens, AutoGrid rank as top providers of demand response management systems, finds Navigant Research

by Brianna Crandall — December 5, 2016 — A new Leaderboard report from Navigant Research examines the strategy and execution of nine leading providers of demand response management systems (DRMSs), providing industry participants with an objective assessment of these companies’ relative strengths and weaknesses. According to the report, Siemens and AutoGrid are the leading providers of DRMSs in terms of strategy and execution.

As the scale of demand response programs continues to increase, operational reliability and the need for more centralized management and control have become critical. Many vendors are now offering solutions categorized as DRMSs, which help energy providers manage demand response programs and improve the return on investment.

Brett Feldman, principal research analyst with Navigant Research, stated:

The global DRMS market is heating up and leading companies are investing heavily to develop their capabilities and strategies. While Siemens is a multinational corporation well-ensconced in the utility operational technology arena, AutoGrid is a Silicon Valley start-up that is looking to bring big data software analytics to the stodgy energy industry.

Utility uptake of demand response management systems has been slow to date, but interest is increasing thanks to an assortment of vendors ranging from full-scale utility operational system providers to pure-play DRMS vendors, according to the report. A number of companies focused on other aspects of the smart grid arena are also now moving into the demand response space, but have a great deal of ground to cover in order to catch up to the incumbents, says the report.

The report, Navigant Research Leaderboard Report: Demand Response Management Systems, examines the strategy and execution of nine leading DRMS providers. These players are rated on 10 criteria: vision; go-to market strategy; partners; technology; geographic reach; sales, marketing, and distribution; product performance; product portfolio; pricing; and staying power.

Using Navigant Research’s proprietary Leaderboard methodology, vendors are profiled, rated, and ranked with the goal of providing an objective assessment of their relative strengths and weaknesses in the global DRMS market.
