See the extraordinary interiors winning the IIDA 2017 competition

by Brianna Crandall — March 22, 2017 — The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) announced this past week the six winners of the Interior Design Competition, and the winner of the Will Ching Design Competition.

Interior Design Competition

The 44th annual Interior Design Competition honors outstanding, innovative and original design. The winning projects were selected by a jury of design experts from among a group of 13 finalists.

IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, commented:

We are pleased to announce the winners of the IIDA Interior Design Competition. This annual competition has long attracted the best in international design and honors the highest level of design achievement from firms whose innovation and creative execution pushes the boundaries of what interior environments can achieve. These inspired spaces represent both ingenuity and function for living, working and playing.

The 2017 Interior Design Competition winners are:

  • Project: Hyundai Capital Convention Hall, Seoul, South Korea; Firm: Gensler, Los Angeles, CA, USA
  • Project: MARS, Santa Monica, CA; Firm: Giorgio Borruso Design, Marina Del Rey, CA, USA
  • Project: Milken Community Schools Guerin Family Institute and Architecture + Design Institute, Los Angeles, CA, USA; Firm: Lehrer Architects LA, Los Angeles, CA, USA
  • Project: NeueHouse Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA, USA; Firm: Rockwell Group, New York, NY, USA
  • Project: Paper Space, Taipei, Taiwan; Firm: J.C. Architecture, Taipei, Taiwan

A Best of Competition winner will be announced at the IIDA annual black-tie gala, COOL, on June 11. The 2017 Interior Design Competition Winners are featured on the IIDA Web site and will be included the May issue of Interior Design magazine, the publishing partner for the competitions.

Will Ching Design Competition

IIDA also announced the firm Shanghai Godolphin as the winner of the 25th annual Will Ching Design Competition for its original, innovative, and creative execution of the International Wine and Spirits Museum in Shanghai, China. The Will Ching Design Competition honors outstanding commercial interior design projects from firms of five employees or fewer.

International Wine and Spirits Museum

The International Wine and Spirits Museum showcases sustainable design and architectural invention at its best, using wine crates for display and structural art.

The International Wine and Spirits Museum showcases sustainable design and architectural invention at its best. The use of wine crates for display and structural art connects culture and commerce and speaks to the beauty and simplicity of this project.

The 2017 winning project, chosen by a jury of design experts, will be celebrated at the IIDA black-tie gala as well, and included in the May issue of Interior Design magazine.
