Detect problems before they cause serious damage — FLIR intros thermal cameras for handheld troubleshooting; thermal sensors for drone cameras; thermal perimeter security cameras

by Brianna Crandall — September 25, 2017 — In recent weeks, thermal imaging and threat detection technology innovator FLIR Systems announced three different camera systems utilizing the company’s thermal imaging technology designed to spot potential trouble before it causes damage.

FLIR Exx-SERIES advanced thermal imaging cameras

The redesigned Exx-Series pistol-grip handheld thermal cameras promise even better performance, resolution, and sensitivity. They are designed to help facilities managers (FMs) and others find hot spots, detect early signs of building deficiencies, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, and prevent other problems before they cause serious damage.

FLIR E75 thermal cameras

Part of the Exx-Series, the FLIR E75 has the sensitivity and resolution needed to diagnose problems and find hidden deficiencies — even from a distance.

FLIR says Exx-Series thermal cameras are able to detect quickly identify potential points of failure in difficult-to-access electrical or manufacturing environments with their high resolution, precise laser-assisted autofocusing, and optional interchangeable lenses — thereby avoiding costly shutdowns.

The thermal cameras are designed with the sensitivity to detect subtle temperature differences, and the wide field of view to target broad areas so FMs can locate critical faults that are difficult to find such as inadequate insulation, moisture intrusion, and building envelope deficiencies.

Duo Pro R dual sensor thermal imaging and mapping system for commercial drones

FLIR also announced the FLIR Duo Pro R dual sensor thermal imaging and mapping system for commercial drones. Featuring a thermal sensor with radiometry, the FLIR Duo Pro R gives professional drone operators the range and image detail needed to capture actionable thermal and visible data in a single flight. FLIR says the system ushers in a new era of imaging capability for a wide range of high-performance commercial, industrial, and public safety drone applications

With the FLIR Duo Pro R, pilots can switch between thermal and color imagers in flight, or view them both in picture-in-picture mode, and select MSX blended imagery, all while recording video and stills on two microSD cards.

The FLIR Duo Pro R allows operators to switch between thermal and video cameras in flight, or watch video streams of both simultaneously in picture-in-picture mode. With the option of a 336×256 or 640×512 thermal resolution sensor and a high-definition 4K color video camera, the FLIR Duo Pro R uses FLIR’s patented multispectral dynamic imaging, MSX, technology to emboss high-fidelity, visible-light details onto the thermal imagery to improve image quality.

Equipped with thermal, visible, and picture-in-picture mode, the Duo Pro R records raw video and stills to two dedicated microSD cards and allows for live digital video output over micro-HDMI and analog video out for easier integration.

The FLIR Duo Pro R dual sensors create a self-contained airborne mapping package. The fully integrated GPS receiver, Inertial Measuring Unit (IMU), temperature, humidity, and altitude sensors provide an onboard source for high-fidelity, reliable geo-tagging data required to create accurate maps and 3D models from an airborne platform.

FLIR FB-Series O fixed bullet thermal security camera for perimeter protection

In addition, FLIR introduced the FLIR FB-Series O fixed bullet thermal security camera designed for short to mid-range perimeter protection. The FLIR FB-Series O offers plug-and-play integration with FLIR United VMS and is certified by other major third-party video management solutions, making it a versatile solution for new or existing security systems.

The FLIR FB-Series O fixed bullet thermal security camera is a versatile solution for short to mid-range perimeter protection.

Joining an award-winning line of perimeter protection thermal cameras, FLIR FB-Series O thermal security cameras feature a 320×240 resolution thermal imaging sensor that detects potential intruders in total darkness, and through sun glare, smoke, dust, and light fog. Three separate lens options — 93, 49 and 24-degree field of views — provide narrow-to-wide coverage of fence lines, building perimeters, and open areas.

The FLIR FB-Series O integrates with FLIR analytic encoders such as FLIR ioi TRK-101 that help distinguish humans and vehicles, and FLIR ioi TRK-101 P PTZ Tracker that hand-off targets to thermal or visible pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ)-enabled cameras on the same network. Simultaneous IP and analog video outputs are also available for use with network and legacy analog systems.

Advanced automatic gain control (AGC) and FLIR’s Digital Detail Enhancement (DDE) provide optimal image quality in all scenes, and by integrating with FLIR United VMS thermal configuration, alarm notifications are easily managed, says the company.

FLIR FB-Series O thermal cameras come with FLIR’s industry-leading 10-year warranty on the thermal sensor and a three-year warranty on the camera body.
