NeoCon 2013: Davis’ super-long wood conference table garners Gold

by Brianna Crandall — June 21, 2013—Davis Furniture introduced a variety of innovative products at the NeoCon 2013 contract furnishings show in Chicago June 10-12. The Span conference table, described below, won a Gold Award in the Best of NeoCon Competition in the Conference Room Furniture category, and the flexible, collaborative Q5 bench and table system garnered a Silver Award in the Seating: Benches category, while the body-conforming Webb C2 conference chair took home Silver in the Seating: Conference category.

Designed by the Davis Design Team, Span is a super-slim wood conference and working table that is able to support lengths of up to 144 inches on just four legs—a seemingly impossible feat of engineering and design. Although Span appears to be constructed from one, long, solid piece of wood, it is actually a combination of aluminum, steel, and sheet metal that has been laminated together and clad in a wood veneer.

Whether users come to the ultra-minimalist table with a simple agenda or an armload of textbooks, Span can reportedly handle it all with grace, simplicity, and durability. Choose from conference standard room dimensions as well as longer lengths, ranging up to 12 feet, for university, research, or library settings.

The Q5 bench collection and table system boasts an eye-catching geometric silhouette and a multitude of configurations for effortless transitions.

Other NeoCon intros include the Join guest seating line, Blok lounge seating, Mez table, and the colorful Sticks, CR3, Line, Zinox and Dots office accessories, which all constitute creative ways to hang coats and hats. Jonathan Prestwich’s Silver-winning Q5 bench and table system transitions effortlessly between seating for an intimate conversation to collaborative sessions to an expanse of personal space without having to move a single piece of furniture, and when connected in more linear shapes, Q5 also works as visual space divider for large open areas. Silver-winning Webb C2 marks the latest addition to the popular line of Webb seating from designer Burkhard Vogtherr, offering a petite frame, body-hugging form, and sumptuous padded seat, with breathable fabric and passive ergonomic support.

Since the early 1990’s, Davis Furniture has won 27 Best of NeoCon Awards including two Best of Competition, as well as numerous other awards. Davis expresses its design philosophy as a marriage of two ideals: beautiful form and practical functionality. The company reportedly commits significant time and resources in developing its products with award-winning designers. These designs are handcrafted in North Carolina. The company has been owned and operated by the Davis family for 68 years.
