IREM, VCU partner on real estate management education

by Brianna Crandall — January 29, 2016—The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and the Kornblau Real Estate Program at Virginia Commonwealth University recently agreed to collaborate in their unified goal to create opportunities, to encourage collaboration and networking, and to deliver valuable education for real estate management students and professionals.

IREM works to elevate the real estate management profession across all property types — multifamily residential properties, office buildings, retail properties, and industrial properties — through education, credentialing, advocacy, and services.

IREM will provide the following benefits:

  • Provide the Kornblau Program with materials focused on careers in real estate management for distribution to students; and
  • Connect the Kornblau Program to IREM chapters in the area for purposes of mutual collaboration.
The Kornblau Real Estate Program will provide the following benefits:
  • Recognize IREM as a principal provider of real estate management education and credentials;
  • Identify, on its Web site and in other materials as appropriate, that Kornblau’s three applicable degrees fulfill the education requirements towards the CPM designation listed above;
  • Distribute information about careers in real estate management developed by IREM to students;
  • Make information about IREM’s Student Membership program available on the Kornblau Web site and promote IREM’s Student Membership as appropriate; and
  • Utilize IREM textbooks and resource material in developing and delivering its real estate management curriculum to the extent applicable.

The Kornblau Real Estate Program at VCU offers a solid academic and experiential foundation that gives students an understanding of the varying disciplines, soft skills and ethics that are required in today’s real estate profession, including the areas of economics, finance, investments, negotiation, presentation, and personal promotion. Kornblau’s degrees and certificates prepare students for careers in mortgage lending, development, equity investment, brokerage and sales, valuation, consulting, property and asset management, and other specialties.

Founded in 1933, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) is an international community of real estate managers that promotes best practices in real estate management, with a current membership of more than 19,000 individual and 550 corporate members.
