NeoCon 2016: Teknion’s Tek Pier height-adjustable worksurface/monitor wins Gold

by Brianna Crandall — July 6, 2016 — Teknion Corporation, an international designer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative workplace interiors, garnered six awards in the Best of NeoCon Competition [see FMLink article] at the NeoCon 2016 contract furnishings show in Chicago in June.

Teknion’s award-winning Zones by Pearsonlloyd furniture collection and Sanna by Pablo lighting collection were described in previous FMLink articles. Gold winner Tek Pier workspace and monitor is detailed below, along with the Focus glass wall system, the Around task chair, and the Teknion Community Table.

Gold: Tek Pier

Teknion says Tek Pier, Best of NeoCon Gold winner in the Technology-Integrated Solutions category, is said to be the first demountable, wall-integrated, height-adjustable workspace and monitor.

Teknion Tek Pier

Best of NeoCon Gold winner Tek Pier is said to be the first demountable, wall-integrated, height-adjustable workspace and monitor.

According to Paul Kruger, Teknion’s director of Design, Architectural Products:

This is the first product of its kind to successfully merge wall-mounted monitors with height-adjustable worksurfaces. With its articulating large monitor, Tek Pier was designed to promote technology for individual or group use while providing an ergonomic, collaborative experience. Three wall-integrated formats support flexible planning styles, including collaboration in small private offices, meeting rooms, enclaves and open-plan environments.

Tek Pier’s wall-integrated actuators offer a height-adjustment range between 24 and 43 inches (61 to 110 cm), complete with anti-collision technology. An innovative and patented Origami mount allows fluid positioning of monitor to maintain viewing privacy, share information with small groups, or engage in touchscreen applications.

The Electrics Hub supports a motion-control switch, as well as power, USB and video connectivity. The Bluetooth app makes height adjustability easy by connecting Tek Pier to users’ devices.

Tek Pier expresses a minimal, unobtrusive and architectural presence from all viewing angles, says Teknion. This is achieved by the overhanging thin-edge detail, integrated cable routing, single lifting column and clean subsurface. Cables to the monitor are hidden through the Origami Arm. The solid-surface top and anodized aluminum components accentuate Tek Pier’s premium aesthetic.

Focus glass wall system

Teknion also introduced its Focus demountable glass wall system at NeoCon 2016. The wall system delivers a high level of acoustic performance with a clean, European aesthetic and a broad range of finish options. Focus was an Honoree in the HiP Awards.

Teknion Focus

Teknion’s Focus demountable glass wall system delivers a high level of acoustic performance with a clean, European aesthetic and a broad range of finish options.

According to Paul Kruger, Teknion’s director of Design, Architectural Products:

The Focus demountable wall system seamlessly integrates a variety of glass and solid fascias to create an array of productive modern workspaces. Focus offers a tailored approach to specific environments with its acoustic and visual continuity, and matching wall and door pairings. Frame and trim components are light in proportion through seamless inline and corner connections, providing a minimal architectural presence.

Focus offers a high level of fit and finish with factory-cut, precision-fitted joins and transitions. Glass connections include aluminum, clear polycarbonate or adhesive tape. Frame and trim components are available in robust finishes — clear anodized and polished aluminum, and powder-coat paints. All options offer a look of continuous transparency. Focus supports LEED initiatives and occupant health, balancing the need for enclosure and acoustic privacy with a sense of openness and full access to natural light.

The new wall system offers the capability to plan with single-centered, single-offset and double glass — in 10 or 12 mm thicknesses — in combinations with solid fascias. Focus allows for future changes with minimal components. It features self-bearing glass and solid fascias, which allow for easy installation and broad planning applications.

Door options include Hinged, Single or Double Barn Doors, as well as a Pivot Door with single- or double-panel glazing. Doors offer varying levels of acoustic performance through single and double glazing as well as an internal drop seal option. Integrated door hardware and finishes create a uniform and consistent program overall.

Around task chair

In addition, Teknion previewed the Around Task Chair with its sleek, sophisticated and minimalist design and hidden innovations at NeoCon. Around was an Honoree in the Hip Awards. Justus Kolberg, industrial designer, said his main inspiration for the Around chair was the open architecture of modern stadiums, which translated into a sculpted profile with a light, dynamic look and a tactile experience that is in sync with the character of contemporary work cultures.

Teknion Around

Teknion’s Around task chair features sleek, sophisticated and minimalist design and hidden innovations.

Around features a synthesis of minimalist design, a unique mechanism and flexible membrane seat pan, which offers the seated user an advanced degree of comfort in a slim profile. The optional lumbar element on the upholstered chair works behind the back-wrap to provide easy to control, non-traditional lumbar and thoracic support. The seat back and arms were designed using a Quick-Snap concept that enables the chair to be shipped knocked down, providing options for efficiently shipping worldwide.

Contemporary and comfortable, Around can be built up with the features — and price — required depending on users’ needs. Optional features including seat-depth adjustment and lumbar element serve for focused task work but can be omitted for short-term use. With simple, easy-to-use operations and weight-balancing synchro-tilt mechanism, Around is appropriate for use around the office, from workstation and desking environments to meeting rooms, training rooms and touchdown settings.

Around has been tested to ANSI/BIFMA standards, meets DfE (Design for the Environment) guidelines, meets Greenguard and BIFMA e3 level 2 standards, and meets a user weight capacity rating of 300 lbs.

Teknion Community Table

Lastly, Teknion launched the Teknion Community Table, designed by Michael Vanderbyl, at NeoCon.
