San Diego resort-style community gains IREM sustainability certification

by Brianna Crandall — September 9, 2016 — The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) recently announced its latest certified sustainable property, Broadstone Little Italy, a resort-style apartment community perched above San Diego Bay and crafted in the spirit of an Amalfi village but with an eye toward the future — a future that is possible thanks to continued sustainability efforts of its management company, Alliance Residential Company.

Broadstone Little Italy

With accents and finishes inspired by the homes along Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the Broadstone Little Italy community is a place “where old-world charm meets modern San Diego living.” The facilities boast an impressive array of luxury conveniences and modern amenities designed for the active lifestyle, including an open-air pool and sundeck that overlook the Bay, a modern fitness club, a professional golf simulator, and a clubhouse with a pool table and three large screens for game day.

IREM Certified Sustainable Property

The IREM Certified Sustainable Property designation is said to be the only sustainability certification program that focuses on the role of exceptional real estate management in green building performance. Available for office, multifamily, and retail properties, the certification provides properties with recognition for resource efficiency and environmental programs.

To earn the sustainability certification, a property must first meet key baseline requirements, and then earn necessary points across energy, water, health, recycling, and purchasing categories. Tenants and residents increasingly associate environmental performance with quality, so the IREM Certified Sustainable Property certification presents a prime opportunity to showcase quality, responsible real estate management, notes IREM.

“We’re really proud of the team at Broadstone Little Italy for working through and achieving the IREM Certified Sustainable Property designation,” states Kelly Vickers, national director of Sustainability at Alliance Residential Company. “Sustainability is a group effort and supportive owners and operators help drive Alliance’s sustainability success.”

Broadstone Little Italy is a good example of how Alliance has implemented sustainability into its corporate culture, says IREM. Alliance is committed to sustainable business practices and has developed the Focus Green program to help minimize the impact their properties have on the environment, provide healthy and efficient homes and offices, control operating expenses, drive savings and promote environmental awareness to stakeholders. The group knows that its focus on conservation and energy does more than just help the environment; it also helps the bottom line.
