These new thermal access control cameras can help you detect fevers. One even prompts mask compliance

by Brianna Crandall — June 3, 2020 — As many buildings start to reopen after the coronavirus shutdowns, security camera systems manufacturer Platinum CCTV has released two thermal cameras designed to help facilities scan for fevers in their employees, customers and visitors without contact in order to keep those who may have contracted an illness from spreading it to others. The first one is designed to keep people moving at a normal pace at facilities with a higher people flow, and the second enables fever detection and ensures mask compliance before entering smaller businesses and facilities, at a more affordable pricepoint.

The company says that the current COVID-19 pandemic is the latest in a long line of viral threats that have threatened our way of life and safety: Ebola, H1N1, SARs and others have all highlighted the need for greater security in places where masses of people travel or gather. Scanning for fevers in individuals can help identify early-stage symptoms of viruses in people before they have a chance to spread further.

PT-BF5421-T Thermal/Visible IP Camera

The new-version PT-BF5421-T Thermal/Visible IP Camera is said to represent the newest generation of artificial intelligence (AI) thermal imaging, which is designed to sense for accurate body temperatures to ±0.54°F. It can reportedly pick up accurate body temperatures on people walking at normal speeds while wearing masks, hats, and even helmets.

These cameras help to speed up screening processes at facilities, providing audible and visual alerts when a higher than normal body temperature is found so that the facility can enact their protocols to help isolate from the rest of the patrons or employees to help stop viruses from spreading. The new AI built into these cameras allows the camera to maintain accuracy and increase the speed of screening for all facilities.

The PT-BF5421-T thermal camera can be used as a standalone device for security personnel to just watch live on a laptop, or it can be incorporated with Platinum CCTV’s proprietary AVM (Advanced Video Management) platform for recording.

Other features of the thermal fever camera include:

  • HD resolution video quality (1920 x 1080 visual resolution)
  • Accuracy to ±0.3°C (±0.54°F) at normal body temperatures
  • Configurable audible siren and visible light alert
  • Artificial intelligence for most accurate temperature readings
  • ONVIF 2.0 compliant, works with most NVR software

The PT-BF5421-T thermal camera has a wide variety of applications, including:

  • Manufacturing facilities, warehouses, factories
  • Convention centers and sports arenas
  • Hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices
  • Nursing homes and assisted living facilities
  • Food-service facilities
  • Airports and metro stations
  • Police checkpoints and military bases
  • Apartment buildings, condos and high rises

PT-AS7213X-T1 Thermal IP camera

The company’s newest-version thermal body temperature-sensing camera for installation into small and medium-sized businesses includes the latest thermal imaging system designed to sense for accurate body temperatures to ±0.5°C. This camera not only measures accurate body temperatures but also can detect if a person is wearing a face mask.

The camera is built on an access control platform and is designed to prohibit or allow access with a combination of fever detection, mask detection, facial recognition and/or IC cards. The thermal camera can help reduce the load on employees that are returning to work, by providing an initial screening of people that are entering the building, even reminding them to wear their masks.

The new PT-ASI7213X-T1 camera supports common electronic door locks and can be configured to remind people to put on a mask, prevent access to those without a mask, or ignore masks altogether, as required at the time. The built-in card reader supports IC-style access control cards, as well as having an optional facial recognition database to allow access based on an individual’s face.

The PT-AS7213X-T1 thermal access control fever camera can be used as a standalone device to allow access to the building automatically, or it can be incorporated with Platinum CCTV’s proprietary AVM (Advanced Video Management) platform for recording. Other features of the thermal fever camera include:

  • HD resolution video quality (600 x 1024)
  • Facial recognition and temperature in 0.2 sec
  • Temperature measurement from 1-6 feet away
  • Accuracy to ±0.5°C (±0.9°F) at normal body temperatures.
  • Configurable audible and visual mask reminder or mask requirement
  • Support for people with a height of 2’10” – 7’10” (for ADA compliance)
  • Built-in IC card access control
  • Optional facial recognition with up to 100,000 face memory
  • ONVIF 2.0 compliant, works with most NVR software

The new PT-AS7213X-T1 thermal camera has a wide variety of applications in smaller and medium-sized facilities, and those with lower people flow.
