by Brianna Crandall — February 1, 2016—A new Web application from global building technology society ASHRAE automates the calculations needed to show a building project’s compliance with Standard 90.1-2010.
The 90.1 ECB Web application is a tool for modeling compliance with ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings (superseded by Standard 90.1-2013), using the Energy Cost Budget (ECB) method in the standard.
According to the ASHRAE site, Standard 90.1 provides the minimum requirements for the energy-efficient design and construction of “new buildings and their systems, new portions of buildings and their systems, and new systems and equipment in existing buildings, as well as criteria for determining compliance with these requirements.”
Drake Erbe, chair of the Standard 90.1 committee, explained:
The application allows users to input project parameters and then calculate the proposed design’s projected performance and compliance, with the results exportable in a workable spreadsheet for project use.
The application is accessible from desktop, tablet or other device. It allows users to store project information in one place for easy reference and comparison.
The 90.1 ECB app is available to users free of charge from ASHRAE.
