by Brianna Crandall — March 11, 2016—Crowne Plaza Los Angeles International Airport recently progressed from Bronze to Silver level certification based on nonprofit science-based standard developer and certification body Green Seal’s GS-33 Sustainability Leadership Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties, among the most stringent sustainability standards for hotels in today’s marketplace.
The Crowne Plaza is one of seven hotels in the Los Angeles Green Lodging Program. Green Seal is the City’s official certifier of green lodging and is working with the LA Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation, and Tourism and Convention Board to ensure that hotels within Los Angeles operate in a sustainable way.
Arthur B. Weissman, Ph.D., president and CEO of Green Seal, noted:
Hotels across the globe are embracing green practices in response to an increasing demand for green lodging by customers. The Crowne Plaza has demonstrated its commitment to being a sustainability leader not only by implementing green measures, but by finding ways to expand on them by adding new practices to its list of environmental achievements.
The Crowne Plaza reached Silver status by instituting such measures as using refillable amenities, installing on / off timers for lighting and air conditioning, and developing an Environmental Purchasing Policy that includes purchasing nontoxic products and using paper products made with recycled content.
As can be noted from the list of Certified Hotels and Lodging Properties, Crowne Plaza joins a small group of elite properties that hold this rigorous certification. The full list of criteria and details for the GS-33 Sustainability Leadership Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties certification can be downloaded from Green Seal.
