Rooflite adds regional green roof soil blender in Missouri

by Brianna Crandall — November 9, 2016 — In a move that will bring local options for facilities managers in the Kansas City region who are considering installing a green roof, Skyland USA recently announced Missouri Organic Recycling has joined its national Rooflite green roof soil blender network as a licensed blender in Missouri.

A family-owned business in Kansas City, MO, Missouri Organic Recycling was created 25 years ago as a company dedicated to organic recycling. Skyland USA produces Rooflite green roof media and offers a full line of lightweight, green roof soil products, with more than 20 blending locations within the Americas.

As a premier provider of green roof media in the United States, Rooflite was looking to expand its green roof soil blender network with a well-established business in the Kansas City area. The company says Missouri Organic Recycling was a perfect fit.

Becoming a certified Rooflite blender also made sense for Missouri Organic Recycling, which has been providing soil for rooftop gardens in the Kansas City area for the last 10 years. While it worked with a variety of other soil manufacturers in the past, Missouri Organic Recycling wanted a trusted partner for the growing rooftop garden market.

According to Kevin Anderson, Vice President of Missouri Organic Recycling:

What drew me to Rooflite is how they package their products and their technical data — they create good material, and it’s easy to know what needs to be specified for a rooftop project. It gives me the ability to go out and sell high-quality products in this expanding market.

In addition to its new offering of Rooflite green roof soil products, Missouri Organic Recycling is also dedicated to “completing the circle” — taking waste streams to create quality products and put them back into the environment. With a core business of yard waste and food waste collection for compost, biosoils and custom soil mixes, the company is involved in many zero-waste initiatives, including on company campuses like those of Sprint and Hallmark. The company focuses exclusively on creating environmentally friendly products.

For Rooflite, the addition of Missouri Organic Recycling to its growing blender network is another important step to providing its quality products across the USA. Joe DiNorscia, president of Skyland USA, stated:

We are so thrilled to have Missouri Organic Recycling come on board. With their experience in green roof soil and their dedication to green initiatives, we look forward to having such an esteemed partner in the greater Kansas City area to grow the Rooflite brand.

Missouri Organic Recycling joins a blender network of more than 20 strategic locations in the Americas. Each blender location provides Rooflite products that are regionally sourced, produced and shipped, which helps projects gain points for LEED certification.
