Find out how these companies are making parking easier for guests at an iconic hotel

by Brianna Crandall — August 14, 2019 — As part of Hotel del Coronado’s $200 million Master Plan — a complete reimagining that adds 142 new guestrooms, a new conference center, a new main entry and underground parking to this iconic seaside resort — the guest parking experience will be enhanced with the installation of a new state-of-the-art parking access and revenue control system. Access Professional Systems (APS) was selected to install an advanced TIBA revenue control suite, and cutting-edge parking guidance technology from APS’s tech startup and partner, EnSight Technologies, was chosen to help patrons of the hotel’s new underground parking structure find parking spots.

Hotel del Coronado

Set on one of America’s most well-known beaches, the legendary Hotel del Coronado has welcomed discerning travelers for 131 years to experience the Southern California coastal lifestyle at its best. The nostalgia of the property’s storied past reportedly blends seamlessly with contemporary luxury in 757 guestrooms.

Hotel del Coronado and Beach Village at The Del are said to have “every modern amenity imaginable,” from bespoke concierge services and holistic spa experiences to private chefs and exquisite oceanfront dining, along with “endless” recreational seaside activities.

TIBA revenue control suite

San Diego-based Access Professional Systems (APS) was selected to install TIBA’s advanced Parking Access and Revenue control (PARCS) equipment, which will be paired with Hilton’s OnQ PMS interface and Hilton digital key utilization to provide an exceptional customer experience in the hotel’s new underground parking structure.

The Hotel del Coronado parking tech suite will include four lanes of TIBA revenue control equipment and central pay-on-foot technology. The system’s integration with Hilton’s OnQ and digital key technologies will permit guests to use their room keys to enter and exit the garage.

Parking guidance equipment

Cutting-edge parking guidance technology provided by EnSight Technologies was selected to help hotel guests find available parking spots more quickly and conveniently. The new garage will provide over 700 parking spaces on three levels, and the state-of-the-art parking tech suite is designed to save guests time and enhance the guest parking experience.

Chris Scheppman, president of Access Professional Systems and managing member of EnSight Technologies, noted that “there aren’t many hotels more historically significant than the Hotel del Coronado,” and expressed the companies’ excitement and honor at partnering with the resort.

Scheppman also pointed out benefits on the facilities management (FM) side:

The parking guidance suite will also collect parking occupancy data that hotel management can use to make more informed parking management choices. The information generated by the technology will be instrumental in helping hotel management make more informed parking managing and planning choices.

EnSight’s smart, simple and scalable technology ecosystem provides a cost-effective parking guidance alternative to parking owners and operators of all sizes. The solution is touted as being less costly and requiring less infrastructure than traditional parking guidance systems.

The Hotel del Coronado parking guidance suite will feature intelligent cameras located at the main entries and level changes to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic and relay that information to dynamic light-emitting diode (LED) signage. The strategically located signs will provide real-time occupancy information throughout the facility to help guests find a parking space.

Data collected by the cameras will be transmitted to EnSight’s software, which constantly analyzes car counts to determine how many spaces are available on each floor and communicates the data to dynamic signage located at facility entrances, entrance to each floor, or intermediate wayfinding signage. Because the system utilizes open API software, it can easily be integrated with other parking technologies into a powerful parking management suite, notes the company.

Scheppman said of the EnSight technology:

Our system is much simpler and easier to manage than traditional parking guidance systems. Parkers don’t need to be overwhelmed with hundreds of green and red lights. You just need to give them enough information to make intelligent parking decisions. Not only is our parking guidance ecosystem much more affordable for owners and operators, but we think it’s more user-friendly too.

The construction project is being overseen by Swinerton.
