by Brianna Crandall — August 23, 2019 — Italy-based MAPEI, a worldwide manufacturer of products for installing flooring and wallcoverings, introduced a new adhesive for wood flooring and a new acrylic primer for nonporous flooring surfaces in recent weeks, described below.
Ultrabond ECO 907 flooring adhesive
The new Ultrabond ECO 907 fast-curing, 100%-solids, silane-modified polymer, gun-grade adhesive is designed for basic wood subfloor construction and related uses.
Jeff Johnson, MAPEI’s business marketing manager for Floor Covering Installation Systems, remarked:
This moisture-curing product is also great for repairing wood flooring, installing wood molding and baseboards, bonding wood stair nosings, and attaching tackstrips to concrete subfloors. It will also act as a supplemental bond for wide plank boards when nailing and gluing are required.
Designed for use in interior settings, Ultrabond ECO 907 works to bond most common construction materials, including plywood and lumber framing, engineered and solid wood flooring, carpet tackstrips, and polystyrene insulation boards.
Johnson continued:
One of the great features of this product is its two-hour cure time. Simply extrude and go. This product reduces installation time, providing high bond strength and excellent elongation properties in a fast-curing adhesive.
Ultrabond ECO 907 is suitable for installation over a wide variety of substrates including concrete and cement terrazzo, ceramic tile, cement-based self-leveling underlayments and patching compounds, exterior-grade plywood and other approved wood underlayments — even properly installed radiant-heating systems, says the company.
Primer X high‐performance acrylic primer
Primer X is a fast‐drying, low‐VOC (volatile organic compound), high‐performance, water‐based, acrylic primer designed to enhance the performance of self‐leveling underlayments over nonporous surfaces.
Johnson explained:
This primer performs exceptionally well when applied over nonporous substrates, including those coated with 100%‐solids, epoxy moisture‐control membranes. It will also work over porous substrates, but Primer X’s unique texture makes it especially appropriate for smooth, nonporous surfaces.
Low in odor and VOCs, Primer X can be used in a variety of interior occupied settings ranging from residential to heavy commercial (airports and department stores) and to institutional (hospitals and schools). Further, the primer’s quick dry time of one to two hours, depending on environmental conditions, ensures that flooring installations can proceed at a quicker pace than typically allowed by traditional primers.
Johnson added:
One of the great features of this product is its one‐ to two‐hour cure time. This product reduces installation time and provides high bond strength in an easily applied, low‐VOC acrylic.
Primer X is suitable for installation over a wide variety of substrates, including 100%‐solids, epoxy moisture barriers; epoxy and cement terrazzo; poured epoxy flooring; properly bonded VCT; and sound and stable (porous/nonporous) concrete substrates.
