J.M. Electrical, BCM Controls to install control system at healthcare facility

by Brianna Crandall — February 5, 2016—J.M. Electrical Company and BCM Controls Corporation announced recently that they had partnered for a control system project at the new Partners HealthCare facility in Somerville, Massachusetts, a 750,000-square-foot development. The two companies kicked off project operations in January.

BCM Controls will be designing the facility’s automation system to control the heating, cooling, and ventilation in the 13-story building. J.M. Electrical will do the installation. Suffolk Construction is the construction management firm overseeing the project.

The facility is scheduled to bring to Assembly Row more than 4,500 administrative employees who are now scattered among 14 Partners HealthCare sites around the region.

Steve Feinberg, president, BCM Controls, commented:

The integrated heating and cooling controls that we designed and installed in partnership with J.M. Electrical will help enhance the working environment for the 4,500 employees who will occupy the facility while helping the facility streamline its control systems to work more efficiently and effectively. Projects like these are even more complex than most, so it was critical to work with a partner we have complete confidence in, and J.M. Electrical fit the bill.

To maintain an environment that meets necessary occupancy needs, BCM Controls and J.M. Electrical will equip the building with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and cooling control systems. The systems will work together to maintain precise temperature and humidity levels while simultaneously moving large amounts of air throughout the development.

These advanced systems are crucial to maintaining the optimal indoor environment, and support an ongoing effort to reduce energy demand and consumption in buildings while guaranteeing reliable energy delivery, note the companies.

The project is scheduled to be completed by late 2016.
