NeoCon 2016: Herman Miller brands win Gold for case goods, healthcare seating

by Brianna Crandall — July 11, 2016 — At NeoCon 2016, furniture and technology providers Herman Miller, Geiger, and Nemschoff presented purposeful variety, meaningful surroundings, and unique character, supported by an array of new product introductions from a cast of international designers. Beyond the positive response from clients and the design community, new product introductions from all three brands were honored during NeoCon, some receiving multiple awards.

Best of NeoCon awards

Geiger Rhythm by EOOS for Geiger received the Best of NeoCon Gold award in the Case Goods category, and the Ava Recliner by 5d Studio for Nemschoff was honored with the Best of NeoCon Gold award for Healthcare: Patient Seating. The Best of NeoCon awards [see FMLink article] are presented by Contract magazine and selected by a jury of interior designers, architects, and facilities executives, most of whom are members of either IIDA or IFMA.

Geiger Rhythm case goods

From sliding wall components to a complementary array of wooden trays and ceramics, Geiger Rhythm allows the people who use a space — residents and guests alike — to configure it to meet their needs.

Geiger Rhythm: Since the needs of offices are as varied as the people who occupy them, Vienna-based firm EOOS designed Geiger Rhythm to make the office feel personal. From the sliding wall components to the complementary array of wooden trays and ceramics, Geiger Rhythm allows the people who use a space — residents and guests alike — to configure it to meet their needs.

Nemschoff Ava Recliner

The Ava Recliner includes pivoting arms and easy-to-use, dual-sided controls for both patient and caregiver access, with a lean design to maximize maneuverability in a minimal footprint, a steel frame for longevity, and urethane arm caps and push bar for soft, inviting surfaces.

Ava Recliner: A departure from the typical recliner aesthetic, the Ava Recliner includes pivoting arms and easy-to-use, dual-sided controls to benefit both the patient and caregiver. The lean design was inspired by extensive research to maximize maneuverability with a minimal footprint. A steel frame provides longevity, while urethane arm caps and push bar offers soft, inviting surfaces.

HiP awards

New introductions from Herman Miller and Nemschoff were also honored with HiP awards from Interior Design. Nemschoff’s Ava Recliner was recognized for Health and Wellness Furniture. Spot Stools by Michael Anastassiades for the Herman Miller Collection were honored in the Hospitality Seating category, and Herman Miller’s Plex, designed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, received the HiP award for Workplace Lounge Seating. Now in its third year, Interior Design’s HiP Awards honor commercial industry pioneers and notable new products.

#MetropolisLikes award

Hecht and Colin’s Plex, a thoughtful new modular lounge furniture collection for Herman Miller, was also one of just 35 products to receive a #MetropolisLikes award, given by the editors of Metropolis magazine to recognize companies and products that further the conversation about design.

Additional product introductions

Herman Miller and its family of brands announced the addition of over a dozen new products to the company’s purposefully varied offering, including the ones mentioned above. Herman Miller’s new lounge collections — including the award-winning Plex modular lounge furniture and Spot stool as well as the Striad lounge chair and Geiger’s Saiba lounge chair and ottoman — can help customers create places of purposeful variety, says the company.

The Keyn conference/side chair caught the eye of FMLink Publisher Peter Kimmel, AIA, IFMA Fellow, since it is stackable, lightweight and easy to move from conference rooms to be a side chair. The Keyn Chair Group is a range of meeting and side chairs that offers responsive movement and immediate comfort for collaborative spaces. The design, by the London-based firm forpeople, uses four key parts to create every model in the group, for consistent visual appeal across multiple configuration options.
