Renovation begins at landmark office building in San Diego

by Brianna Crandall — September 14, 2016 — A renovation project in San Diego, California, reflects “work-stay-play” urban trend in office buildings. Looking to update and transform Aventine, a Class A, 220,000-square-foot LEED Platinum-certified office building located on an 11-acre campus at 8910 University Center Lane, Boston-based Rockpoint Group has started on a $6.6 million renovation of the premier office project.

Designed by Gensler, the renovation at Aventine will include a new, modern, light and bright building lobby complete with an expresso bar and indoor/outdoor lounge seating areas; new exterior entry enhancement and drought-tolerant landscaping; new fitness center with shower and locker facilities; updated corridors and restrooms; and upgrades to the parking garage including new lighting, paint, signage and improved ingress/egress. San Diego-based Cypress Office Properties is assisting in the execution of the renovation.

Professional real estate services and investment management firm JLL will lead the leasing efforts. Aventine is able to accommodate a variety of requirements ranging from approximately 1,500 to 30,000 square feet of contiguous space, says JLL, along with signage. The top three floors of the building are available, offering 360-degree panoramic views.

“Rockpoint is modernizing this renowned property to create a boutique hospitality vibe that fosters collaboration and creativity in a campus setting,” said JLL’s Tony Russell.  “Once completed, this will be the premier work, stay, play environment in San Diego.”

Known for its landmark design, Aventine is positioned along the well-traveled Interstate 5 and La Jolla Village Drive in the heart of San Diego’s Golden Triangle. Originally designed by renowned architect Michael Graves, the campus includes the 419-room Hyatt Regency La Jolla as well as numerous on-site dining amenities including Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Truluck’s and Café Japengo. Aventine is located within walking distance of La Jolla Village Square, a regional retail center providing additional retail services as well as a variety of restaurants.
