by Brianna Crandall — November 12, 2012—ABM Industries Inc., a leading provider of integrated facilities solutions across the United States and in over 20 international locations, has announced three acquisitions in recent weeks that will strengthen the company’s offerings in various markets and geographical areas and support the company’s vision of becoming the global leader in integrated facilities solutions.
1/ ABM recently acquired HHA Services, a Detroit-based provider of food and facilities management services to hospitals, healthcare systems, long-term care facilities and retirement communities. The transaction, with undisclosed terms, closed November 1. The acquisition of HHA, when combined with ABM’s existing healthcare services, which include Healthcare Parking Systems of America, environmental services, clinical engineering, energy solutions, facility services and security, will reportedly create the most comprehensive set of solutions available from a single provider in the healthcare services market.
Founded in 1974, HHA, which generates annual revenues of approximately $50 million, offers three distinct lines of service:
- Environmental Services: Includes housekeeping, laundry and linen services and internal patient transportation
- Plant Operations and Maintenance: Includes engineering and general maintenance
- Food and Nutrition: Includes patient dining, senior dining, retail services, clinical nutrition, and food service consulting
2/ ABM Building Services, a business unit of ABM Building & Energy Solutions, acquired the operations of Calvert-Jones, a full-service provider of mechanical and energy efficient products and solutions in the Washington, DC, area. ABM and Calvert-Jones have for years shared the common goal of being world-class single-source facilities solutions providers. Combined, the two organizations provide a platform for sustainable building services.
Calvert-Jones specializes in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC); electrical and plumbing; automated controls and energy efficiency services to the greater Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland commercial markets. Founded in 1947, Calvert-Jones provides its full line of specialty mechanical services to a number of top regional companies and government agencies. Through a focus on health care, government security, and LEED-certified energy and environmental services, Calvert-Jones has positioned itself as a solution-driven organization that improves facilities-operating efficiency.

Air Serv, when combined with ABM’s Janitorial, Facility Solutions, Security and Parking airport businesses, will significantly expand ABM’s capabilities in servicing the end-to-end needs of the airlines and airport authorities and will create an integrated aviation vertical with over $650 million in annual revenues.
