ABM’s bundled energy solutions program to make Washington-Holmes Technical Center more efficient

by Shane Henson — July 16, 2012—Washington-Holmes Technical Center, a higher education institution located in Chipley, Florida, recently contracted ABM’s building solutions division to provide major energy upgrades through its Bundled Energy Solutions (BES) Program.

The BES program was created to be an easy and cost-effective way for building owners and facilities managers to improve energy management, says ABM. BES projects are designed for each client’s specific requirements and apply a comprehensive suite of integrated, technological infrastructure improvements to a building that result in:

  • Guaranteed energy and operating cost savings

  • Increased staff productivity

  • Reduced downtime and equipment costs

  • Reduced environmental impact

  • Enhanced government compliance

The institution’s project, which is scheduled to be completed by August of this year, is expected to reduce energy consumption on Washington-Holmes Technical Center’s 26-acre campus by more than one million kWh per year and save the school an estimated $2 million.

Key renovations ABM is set to provide the 15 buildings on campus include retrofitting light fixtures with new high-efficiency T-8 fluorescent lamps and ballasts; renovating exhaust systems in certain buildings for improved air circulation; installing a campus-wide, Web-based HVAC control system, allowing the school to better manage energy use as well as notify appropriate staff should any problems arise with the equipment; and replacing 63 HVAC units with high-efficiency equipment that exceeds a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 15.

Additionally, ABM will be installing a high-efficiency 10kW solar panel system that is being donated by local utility provider Gulf Power Company, headquartered in Pensacola, Florida.
