by Shane Henson — January 24, 2014—Satellite Self Storage, a full-service self-storage facility in New Jersey, recently announced that it selected Access Fixtures’ 40-watt LED (light-emitting diode) wall packs to replace existing high-pressure sodium luminaires, subsequently reducing its energy use by 56 percent.
The company turned to Access Fixtures for lighting that was both energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing. Because the new LED wall packs have excellent color rendering and emit white light instead of the yellow high-pressure sodium color, the area looks better and has improved visibility, and customers feel safer, too, says the company. In addition, Satellite Self Storage estimates new wall packs will almost eliminate maintenance for the lighting, and are expected to save over $2,000 each year.
“We were renovating the facility and didn’t like the outdated high-pressure sodium luminaires, which provided poor light quality and used a lot of energy,” said Satellite Self Storage General Manager Andrea Yerves. “The LED wall packs provide much better light, look better, require little to no maintenance, and save a lot of energy, too.”
Satellite Self Storage replaced 74 70-watt high-pressure sodium wall packs with 40-watt LED wall packs, saving 51 watts per wall pack. Since electricity in northern New Jersey costs $0.188 per kilowatt hour, each wall pack saves 51 watts as compared to the high-pressure sodium wall packs replaced. Assuming the wall packs are on 12 hours a day, seven days a week, the LED wall packs could save $3,130 per year, estimates the company.
Access Fixtures’ LED wall packs come in many configurations for commercial and industrial lighting. Buyers can choose from up lights, down lights, and forward-facing lights in a variety of housings to suit most every application. There are also several different lens choices, along with wire guards and other options to suit buyers’ needs.
