Access Specialties intros new access control system

by Rebecca Walker — March 4, 2009—Security and IT work together in the powerful new IP based Focal Point Security Program from Access Specialties International. Focal Point, according to the company, is a simple, effective and scalable program that utilizes IP access control for alarm monitoring, building automation control and distributed intelligence.

Focal Point supports HID’s Edge product line with an integrated EdgeReader controller or any type of card reader with the EdgePlus unit. The product was introduced at ASI’s national sales meeting in Naples, FL on February 7, 2009 with support by HID and Ingersoll Rand.

“Focal Point is designed to provide outstanding security at a low initial cost without a per seat license fee,” said Lisa DeBettignies, ASI president. “The program is ideal for small to mid-size businesses because it operates on single or multiple work stations, doesn’t require special hardware, has an all-in-one controller and easily adapts as a company grows.”

The system stores up to 44,000 cards or credentials, controls and powers all access devices at the door and offers unlimited user-definable fields, according to the company. It supports cardholder images, handicapped features, operator routing and access control exceptions. The program buffers up to 5,000 transactions if power is disrupted and uploads the transactions when power is restored.

Access Specialties International manufactures and markets user-friendly access control systems, hands-free card readers, CCTV systems and other security equipment. For more information, see the Web site.
