by Shane Henson — September 12, 2012—AECOM Technology Corporation, a provider of professional technical and management support services for government and commercial clients around the world, was recently tapped to provide construction management services for the new Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport. AECOM will carry out the work in association with Hill International as the prime sub-consultant, it says.

Per the five-year contract, which commences immediately, AECOM will take responsibility for many aspects of the construction of the Midfield Terminal Building, which will be a 7.5-million-square-foot terminal building, as well as the required associated airside and landside infrastructure. Scheduled to open during 2017, the terminal will be able to handle more than 30 million passengers and will have sufficient piers to accommodate 65 aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

Passenger facilities will include more than 296,000 square feet of airline hospitality lounges, a transit hotel, international restaurants and cafés, and a heritage and culture museum, as well as luxury retail space roughly equivalent to the size of the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. These are set around an indoor park, another first for the region, which will host Mediterranean plants and features at its center, and desert landscapes at its edge.

AECOM says it is well positioned to manage this contract, valued at U.S. $85 million. With approximately 45,000 employees around the world, AECOM is considered a leader in all of the key markets that it serves.
