by Shane Henson — August 1, 2012—Alcoa Kawneer, a manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry, recently helped complete a $220 million renovation project of Kauffman Stadium, formerly known as Royals Stadium and home to the Kansas City Royals.
According to Alcoa Kawneer, the renovation of the sixth oldest stadium in Major League Baseball incorporated several of its products. Kawneer curtain wall, entrances and sliding doors can be seen throughout the stadium in locations such as the Diamond Club, press boxes and broadcasting booth, as well as the suite area and Royals Hall of Fame Club and Sports Bar.
In addition, the large expanses of glass curtain wall provided by Kawneer on the building’s exterior façade give the structure a look that is unique among similar-sized sports stadiums.
“Kawneer is dedicated to delivering innovative products and solutions that help achieve the design and performance goals for a range of commercial applications, including stadiums like Kauffman Stadium,” said Kimberly Ferro, vice president, marketing and product development for Kawneer North America. “Products like our 990HT Sliding Door are ideal for this sort of building application as it is a combination swing door integrated with a multiple panel sliding door that allows fans to open up most of the suite to the stadium itself. We are pleased to play a role in this exciting event for Major League Baseball, and hope the fans are pleased with what they see beyond the game.”
