by Brianna Crandall — July 2, 2014—Attendees at the Building Owners and Managers Association’s (BOMA) Every Building Conference and Expo last week were able to preview the new ENGAGE technology from Allegion created to simplify the ability to connect people, openings and access management to deliver cost-effective intelligence and efficiency to any building and office. Designed specifically for the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) market, ENGAGE technology was developed in collaboration with BOMA members.
April Noblitt, director of vertical marketing, Allegion, explains, “Because of our close working relationship with BOMA and the CRE market, we were able to address the unmet need for affordable, flexible and scalable tenant access management. Historically, the costs and complexity of EAC solutions offered to this market are scaled for large institutional enterprises, making them impractical for many businesses.”
Noblitt says Allegion conducted interviews and focus groups with BOMA members to understand current challenges and, more importantly, determine the type of solution they believed would best serve the market. Through the resulting product, Allegion provides commercial real estate managers and occupants with the simplicity and convenience of installing ENGAGE technology-enabled Schlage wireless electronic locks on interior doors, enabling them to move from having an intelligent perimeter only to a more secure, connected and efficient environment on the interior as well.
Through the ENGAGE mobile app, business owners and managers can easily control the daily access rights of employees and visitors, as well as monitor usage, says Allegion. ENGAGE-enabled wireless locks can also be integrated into most popular access control systems for even greater capabilities, including real-time control. Additionally, ENGAGE-enabled wireless locks will accommodate multiple credential formats and let property owners and managers leverage their existing electronic credentials throughout the building.
ENGAGE-enabled wireless locks can be implemented with new construction, in existing facilities or during tenant fit-outs on existing door preps. Owners can expand doors at the pace they or their tenants desire. In contrast to conventional offerings, this new wireless lock easily retrofits into standard commercial door prep in approximately 15 minutes using only a screwdriver, says Allegion.
Allegion aims to create peace of mind by pioneering safety and security solutions for homes and businesses. The company employs more than 8,000 people and sells products in more than 120 countries around the world. Allegion comprises 27 global brands, including strategic brands CISA, Interflex, LCN, Schlage and Von Duprin.
