by Shane Henson — October 22, 2012—Amerlux, a New Jersey-based designer and manufacturer of energy-efficient lighting systems, recently launched FINO, reportedly the world’s first ultra-shallow asymmetric luminaire that can be mounted to the wall or ceiling for optimal indirect lighting, particularly for commercial and hospitality applications.

FINO is ideal for indirect ambient, wall wash or cove lighting applications in private offices and hotel corridors, says Amerlux, or for any space where a clean, architectural look is desired. It provides outstanding architectural illumination using light-emitting diode (LED) technology and delivers the comfort of indirect lighting with the light levels to work by without the need of recessed downlighting. It is also capable of being installed and running the complete length of walls, without interfering with the studs.

FINO is designed with an ultra-thin depth of just 5/8 inches and can install easily in sheet rock, without cutting the studs. Using just five watts per foot, FINO features extruded construction and optics to provide the exact fit and finish for hairline joints, as well as an extruded two-piece, trimless mud frame with gear for a clean, architectural look. An engineered, snap-in lens delivers maximum efficiency and excellent light transmission with an integral reflector in a high reflectance white finish.

Available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K and 4000K-correlated color temperatures, FINO offers a color-rendering index of 80, standard 0-10v dimming, a 50,000-year life, and an industry leading 10-year limited warranty, the company says.

Fixtures can be mounted individually or in a continuous row using a drawer latching system that provides easy and precise joining of units for straight runs. An LED driver installs easily into walls and is accessible through the fixture for maintenance, adds Amerlux.
