Aramark and Noveda to develop energy and water management solutions for higher education institutions

by Shane Henson — October 24, 2011—Facilities managers working for higher education institutions that utilize ARAMARK’s services or are interested in doing so may soon benefit from a partnership the FM services provider created with Noveda Technologies, developer of Web-based, real-time energy and water management systems.

Together, the two companies plan to deliver programs that drive and sustain behavioral change to reduce waste and optimize consumption of electricity, natural gas and water in higher education facilities managed by ARAMARK across North America.

As part of the partnership, Noveda will provide ARAMARK’s clients with data acquisition hardware and software solutions, along with an operations portal that will allow facilities managers to view and monitor energy and water usage at multiple campus buildings from one system. In addition to enabling energy and water monitoring, Noveda will provide interactive and real-time educational dashboards and kiosk displays to track energy and water use, as well as to encourage energy saving competitions on the campuses ARAMARK serves.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), educational institutions in the US spend nearly $14 billion annually on energy. Additionally, colleges and universities can reduce energy bills by 30 percent or more and sustain savings by employing a variety of measures. One such measure, highlighted in a recent ARAMARK survey of higher education students, is education and engagement programs that involve the campus community in consumption reduction and behavior change. ARAMARK has successfully implemented several campus education and awareness programs that engaged students in reducing waste and consumption of resources.
