ARCHIBUS updates software to reduce carbon footprint, lower costs

by Rebecca Walker — November 12, 2010—ARCHIBUS, Inc., a leading developer of real estate, infrastructure, and facilities management software, has launched the latest release of its flagship solution, ARCHIBUS V.19, featuring Run Anywhere architecture as well as new and enhanced Web-based applications that help organizations reduce their carbon footprint, increase asset optimization, and lower operating costs.

The new Run Anywhere architecture enables increased collaboration by allowing multiple work sites and service providers to interact directly with enterprise workflows using Web Services, eliminating the need to extract, duplicate, or e-mail data and files. The resulting improved workflow saves organizations both time and money, as well as increases the accuracy of shared information, says the company.

The ARCHIBUS Version 19 release offers access to new or enhanced “Smart Client” software applications that give organizations the tools to help improve their environmental stewardship as well as their bottom lines. These applications include:

  • Energy Management: Provides the means to easily aggregate, evaluate, and optimize energy and utility spending decisions to reduce unnecessary consumption and costs, typically by about 5 percent annually.
  • Environmental Sustainability Assessment: Helps prioritize environmental remediation actions through a truly objective and systematic method of identifying and prioritizing facility replacements, upgrades, and renovations, based on environmental sustainability criteria.
  • Hoteling: Enables organizations to utilize existing workspace more efficiently. It makes implementation of increasingly popular telework initiatives possible, thereby decreasing emissions associated with commuting as well as workspace operating costs.
  • Asset Portal: Increases data accuracy of the asset registry, improves asset utilization, and optimizes asset acquisition and disposal decisions within an overall capital plan. Improvement in these practices helps reduce unnecessary consumption of resources, which is both harmful to the environment and to an organization’s financial results.
  • Smart Client Extensions for AutoCAD and Revit: Lets “power users,” performing CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tasks, connect and interact directly with enterprise workflows using a simple thin pipe Web connection. This capability eliminates the need to extract, duplicate, or e-mail data and files, improving efficiency and data integrity.

As a member of IBM PartnerWorld, ARCHIBUS has also acquired access to IBM visualization components that have been incorporated into ARCHIBUS V.19. Employing these IBM graphical tools provides better visualization of users’ operations and helps inform their decision-making with 3D charts, Gantt charts, calendars, tree maps, Flash maps, gauges and more.
