by Shane Henson — October 29, 2012—Turner Construction Company, a North America-based international provider of building services, and renowned architect Rob Quigley have announced the completion of the dome for the recently constructed San Diego New Central Library they were contracted to create. According to Turner Construction Company, it is the only customized dome structure in California.
Designed by Quigley, the San Diego New Central Library features bay-view terraces, roof gardens, a cafe, flexible meeting space, a state-of-the-art 350-seat auditorium, and a three-story reading room under the lattice dome. The 294,673-square-foot, nine-story structure will include a 76,000-square-foot charter high school, six meeting rooms, 22 wifi-enabled study rooms, 407 computer stations, 1.25 million volumes, and more than twice the space of the former central library. With an energy-efficient design, the San Diego New Central Library is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
Shawn Rosenberger, vice president and general manager of Turner Construction Company, San Diego, said, “We’re excited to celebrate this major milestone in what will become one of San Diego’s most versatile and widely used civic buildings. I join other San Diegans in looking forward to enjoying these world-class facilities in less than a year.”
