Architecture for Humanity, Center for Green Schools release guide to creating greener schools

by Shane Henson — June 10, 2013—Anyone interested in helping K-12 schools become more sustainable may benefit from reading The Green Schools Investment Guide for Healthy, Efficient and Inspiring Learning Spaces, a free downloadable resource developed by Architecture for Humanity and the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) .

In the 70-page guide, facilities managers, administrators and parents alike can learn about how investments in America’s school buildings can improve student and staff well-being and academic performance, conserve scarce resources, and foster thriving and sustainable communities.

Much of the book focuses on identifying, getting people behind, and working on building improvements that will lead to a more sustainable school. Included in the book are chapters on key building systems, including heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; lighting systems, water management, and renewable energy.
