by Brianna Crandall — March 12, 2014—According to the American Hospital Association (AHA)’s American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), hospitals around the country are showing their commitment to sustainability in the healthcare industry by becoming allies with the AHA’s Sustainability Roadmap for Hospitals. ASHE and the other two AHA personal membership groups that collaborated to create the Sustainability Roadmap have welcomed the first 10 allies to the program.
The Sustainability Roadmap Web site provides free, practical tools to help healthcare facilities reduce their environmental footprints. It shows hospitals how to define goals and create a strategic plan, implement real-world sustainability projects, enhance existing efforts, and share their environmental successes with other facilities.
The first 10 healthcare organizations that are now Sustainability Roadmap allies are:
- Boulder Medical Center, Boulder, CO
- Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Christiansburg, VA
- Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH
- Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, VT
- Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, Falls Church, VA
- Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, CA
- North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, Manhasset, NY
- Sky Lakes Medical Center, Klamath Falls, OR
- Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto, CA
- Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, NH
The three AHA personal membership groups that collaborated to create the Sustainability Roadmap are ASHE, the Association for the Healthcare Environment (AHE), and the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM).
