ASHRAE to offer certification for building energy modeling professionals

by Jbs011409 i3 — January 18, 2010—The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has launched a new program to certify Building Energy Modeling Professionals, developed in partnership with the U.S. affiliate of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA-USA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

The new designation is intended to “certify individuals’ ability to evaluate, choose, use, calibrate, and interpret the results of energy modeling software when applied to building and systems energy performance and economics and to certify individuals’ competence to model new and existing buildings and systems with their full range of physics,” according to the certification site.

The program’s first certification examination will take place January 27, 2010 at ASHRAE’s Winter Conference and AHR Expo in Orlando, Florida. The exam will be available in testing centers located throughout the United States and worldwide beginning in March 2010, says ASHRAE.
