ASHRAE Web site gives details on upcoming high-performance green building Standard 189.1

by Jbs011409 a3 — January 20, 2010—As publication of the nation’s first code-intended high-performance green building standard in the United States draws nearer, a Web page has been launched providing detailed information about the standard, including an easily readable draft copy of the document, more information on the areas addressed by the standard, and other resources for high-performance building.

Proposed Standard 189.1, Standard for the Design of High Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, was approved for publication in December by the Boards of Directors of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE); the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES); and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)— the three groups that are partnering in its development.

ASHRAE is currently going through the final stages of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) consensus development process, and expects the standard to be published in early 2010. All three organizations are working to educate the industry and make the standard available as quickly as possible, given its potential impact.
