ASIS private security officer guidelines open for public comment

by jbs111708 j3 — November 19, 2008—The ASIS Commission on Standards and Guidelines is soliciting a second round of comments on suggested revisions to the Private Security Officer Selection and Training Guideline through a 45-day public review and comment period. The comment deadline is December 20, 2008.

The PSO Selection and Training Guideline was first published in 2004. All ASIS Guidelines are reevaluated every three years, with the possibility of revision, if warranted. ASIS International is the “preeminent” society for security management professionals.

To review the guideline and provide input, go to the Standards and Guidelines Activity section of the ASIS Web site, under the “Guidelines” heading at the right. The PSO Selection and Training Guideline may be downloaded, free of charge.

The PSO Selection and Training Guideline, written for both proprietary and contract security, is not intended to cover all aspects of selection and training criteria for private security officers. It is intended to set forth minimum criteria that regulating bodies and companies in the US can use to assist in recommending legislation and policies for the selection and training of private security officers. The guideline also includes definitions of terms and references and bibliography.
