Learn about the latest workplace safety and health strategies from these two new ASSP books

by Brianna Crandall — June 1, 2018 — Two new occupational safety and health (OSH) books will debut at the Safety 2018 Professional Development Conference and Exhibition June 3-6 in San Antonio, Texas, from the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), formerly known as the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), which has helped OSH professionals protect people and property for more than 100 years.

Safety Leadership and Professional Development

Safety Leadership and Professional Development, edited by Richard Olawoyin and Darryl C. Hill, provides a road map that defines the safety profession and promotes leadership and professional development. With contributions from academic and industry leaders, the major sections focus on ethics, leadership and management; certification and accreditation; professional development; technical aspects such as risk assessment and hazard recognition; and workplace culture.

The book is a valuable read for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students, certification trainees, and occupational safety and health professionals, as well as facilities managers (FM) tasked with keeping the workplace safe.

Paul Specht, Ph.D., CSP, commented:

The book should be required reading for new safety professionals and for students preparing for their first safety position. It addresses topics that are often overlooked or under-researched in more technical publications. It covers the key elements of successful safety and health programs, and more importantly, offers the methodologies for their implementation.

During Safety 2018, authors Olawoyin and Hill will be on hand for an informal meet-and-greet from 9:30 to 10:30 am Monday, June 4, in the Marketplace of the second-floor Park View Foyer at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
