by jbs040910 e3 — April 12, 2010—Standards group ASTM International has taken action on several standards related to facilities in recent weeks, as listed below.
- New standard ASTM E2714, Test Method for Creep-Fatigue Testing, provides a means for creep-fatigue testing, which simulates the loading and temperature conditions experienced by turbine components of aircraft engines, nuclear reactor components and fossil power plant components during service, as well as other components used in the chemical, defense and aerospace industries.
- New standard ASTM D7565/D7565M, Test Method for Determining Tensile Properties of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites Used for Strengthening of Civil Structures , is part of a series of standards addressing polymer-reinforced composite materials used in the repair and reinforcement of concrete buildings and other civil structures. The latest standard addresses the tension testing of materials that are externally bonded to concrete and other structural materials for repair, retrofit and strengthening purposes, with instructions specific to the construction industry.
- New standard ASTM E2691, Practice for Job Productivity Measurement , can be used to better measure construction productivity at three levels: task, project and industry. The technique described in ASTM E2691 measures work performed compared to construction put-in-place, reducing the need for end-of-the-job inspection and allowing issues to be resolved as the job progresses.
- New standard ASTM E2641, Practice for Best Practices for Safe Application of 3D Imaging Technology, offers guidelines for the safe use of three-dimensional (3-D) image system technology, which is used in a wide variety of industries, including construction, mapping, manufacturing and forensics.
