by jbs081410c3 — August 16, 2010—The Green Building Council of Australia welcomed $100 million in funding for the Australian Carbon Trust announced August 8 by the Australian government. “We support the Gillard Government’s $100 million dollar commitment to the Australian Carbon Trust and look forward to working together towards a common goal,” said Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), Romilly Madew.
“Carbon remains one of the key environmental impacts associated with the construction and use of the built environment, and Australia must continue to encourage and implement energy efficiency measures in the push towards carbon neutrality. Not only are such measures available now, but they are fast and cost-effective opportunities for greenhouse gas abatement.
“The Australian Carbon Trust is a further step on the long-term pathway to a sustainable built environment. Further strides are needed, and we look forward to further green building announcements in the last two weeks of the election campaign,” Ms. Madew concluded.
