Australia launches first guide for property sustainability reporting

by jbs072009 j3 — July 22, 2009—A new guide to corporate responsibility reporting will transform the way the property sector records its performance, according to the Property Council of Australia. Launched by Assistant Treasurer Senator Nick Sherry, A Guide to Corporate Responsibility Reporting in the Property Sector is reportedly the only property-specific template available anywhere in the world.

The Property Council says the new guide will standardize the metrics the industry uses to report corporate responsibility, and help ensure non-financial performance is transparent, meaningful, and comparable.

The publication provides a simple, voluntary, entry-level template that can be customized to the needs of individual corporations. Environmental performance indicators addressed in the guide include: building ratings, materials, energy, water, biodiversity and land use, emissions, and waste.

The Guide to Corporate Responsibility Reporting in the Property Sector, which draws on such global standards as the Global Reporting Initiative and the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, is out for public consultation for 12 months from June 2009.
