by Ann Withanee — February 16, 2011—Babcock International Group has been awarded a new contract by Defence Estates, valued at about €200 million (£170 million), to provide facilities management (FM) direct services at British Forces bases across Germany, according to Babcock, a UK leading engineering support services organization.
The five-year contract will see Babcock deliver a broad range of hard FM direct services at 12 stations with over 20,000 built assets, mainly located in the northwest of Germany.
Under the new contract, Babcock will deliver planned and reactive building maintenance, grounds maintenance and minor new works to support the British Forces’ buildings, assets and estate, predominantly in the German states of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Mobilization of the contract will start immediately, with Babcock due to commence service delivery for the garrisons in August 2011.
This the first time that Defence Estates has outsourced a major facilities management contract in Germany to a private sector partner. Babcock has worked closely with Defence Estates to develop a cost-effective and flexible solution, capable of evolving in response to the significant changes planned to the MoD footprint as service personnel return to the UK.
Babcock employees will deliver the majority of FM direct services in-country, with supply chain partner, URS Corporation, delivering professional support for design, structural engineering and environmental consultancy.
This new contract expands Babcock’s Infrastructure business, which currently supports over 15,000 built assets in the public and private sector.
