BAM Construction cuts carbon footprint 11 percent over 2008

by Rebecca Walker — April 23, 2010—BAM Construction, a sister business to BAM FM, has cut its carbon footprint by 11 per cent compared to 2008. BAM has measured its footprint for three years and says the reduction for 2009 follows a reduction of 7 percent the year before.

The company said progress came from all three main sources of emissions, the most notable being from construction sites in which it used less fuel and electricity despite increasing construction turnover. Data collection and measurement has also improved, enabling it to evaluate more accurately.

Measures implemented to achieve these reductions included remote monitoring of energy; providing an in-house energy management advice service to sites; reducing the use of generators; and improving the efficiency of its fleet.
