Barrett, Furbish partner for green roof waterproofing

by Brianna Crandall — October 19, 2015—Waterproofing specialist Barrett Company has announced a partnership with emerging green roof company Furbish to offer single-source warrantied solutions for high-volume stormwater retention green roofs. This comes after increasing interest in the Mid-Atlantic market for EcoCline, Furbish’s latest innovation that is said to manage rooftop stormwater in less than half the weight and less than half the depth of green roofs in the U.S. market.

Barrett is a national provider of high-performance waterproofing, roofing and vegetated roof systems. When a vegetated roof becomes part of a building program, balancing the competing functional demands of sustainable design and design economies can be challenging, points out the company. Together, Barrett and Furbish provide a seamless single-source system of reliable, time-proven waterproofing, high-volume stormwater retention, and energy efficiency at reasonable cost.

Barrett Company and Furbish are partnering to offer single-source warrantied solutions for high-volume stormwater retention green roofs.

EcoCline was developed by Furbish, a living systems company becoming renowned for its disruptive innovations in green roofing and green structure design. EcoCline expands green roofing capabilities by offering flexible profile options that have highly efficient stormwater retention management and guaranteed vegetation sustainability in lightweight configurations. Furthermore, EcoCline eliminates the need for permanent irrigation.

What makes for a good culture fit between Barrett and Furbish is that both companies are environmentally conscious, and design unique assemblies with high recycling content and very low carbon footprint. What makes them a good fit for the expanding green roof market is their ability to custom design and fit large-scale green roofing systems that are lightweight, quickly and easily installed, and require little maintenance. Their combined expertise makes lightweight, high-volume water retention that is attractive to architects and building owners.

Building owners, architects and developers want trustworthy waterproofing, points out Barrett. True “waterproofing” requires the membrane to retain its watertight integrity by preventing the passage of liquid under dynamic, or intermittent hydrostatic pressure. Backed with 90 years of waterproofing expertise, Barrett offers two time-proven systems: Ram-Tough 250 Rubberized Asphalt Membranes and Black Pearl Waterproofing Systems. With 20 years of green roofing experience, Furbish provides EcoCline’s uniquely designed integrative systems with mineral wool.

Even more appealing is that Barrett and Furbish easily install systems on existing structures that have limited roof structural capacity and retrofit existing buildings. Once thought implausible, Barrett and Furbish systems make possible retaining one inch of water with only a 13 pound load per square foot.

The Barrett-EcoCline assemblies are offered with up to a 25-year single-source labor and materials warranty, which covers waterproofing, thermal performance, overburden removal, a 10-year concrete paver warranty and a renewable 5-year vegetation warranty.

The demand for green roofs is growing rapidly in the U.S. market due to their aesthetic appeal and positive impact on property values. More than that, however, are the ecological benefits like reduction of pollution caused by stormwater run-off, heat-island effect, exterior noise pollution, and increased carbon dioxide-to-oxygen conversion that attract buyers. Barrett and Furbish partnered with this in mind, that people want cleaner water and energy-efficient buildings without the complications of overweight roofs.
