by Shane Henson — August 16, 2013—The Better Buildings Partnership (BBP), a collaboration of U.K. commercial property owners seeking to develop solutions to improve the sustainability of existing commercial buildings, has added a newly revised publication to its resource offerings: The Green Lease Toolkit.
The publication provides property owners, building managers, and lawyers with guidance on the use of green leases for commercial property, and information on how green leases can significantly benefit both owners and occupiers. Green leases are increasingly recognized as a powerful mechanism to improve the environmental performance of commercial property, drive carbon dioxide savings, and foster greater collaboration between landlords and tenants, BBP explains. Their importance is likely to grow as a result of an increasing amount of environmental legislation aimed at encouraging everyone involved with property to reduce the environmental impacts of their operations.
The BBP notes that in 2009 it was at the forefront of the development of green leases with the publication of its first Green Lease Toolkit, which provided a clear and practical framework to support greater owner occupier engagement and collaboration. Much has changed, however, since the publication’s launch. Taking in the practical experiences of BBP members, industry feedback and advice from legal advisers, the organization has published this update.
