Best in fire safety celebrated at U.K. awards ceremony

by Shane Henson — June 17, 2011—The best products, services and people in the fire safety community in the U.K. were celebrated in May at the 2011 Fire Excellence Awards gala dinner at Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Held every two years, the awards coincide with the International Firex exhibition, the U.K.’s largest fire safety event.

Award categories ranged from product and design innovation to winning partnership and training initiatives. The winners of the 2011 awards are:

  • Best passive protection product: Freedor by Fireco
  • Best means of escape product: Emergency lighting system, Hochiki Europe
  • Best detection and alarm product: OSID from Xtralis
  • Best suppression product: Argonite C60, Kidde Fire Protection
  • Best partnership project: Springboard by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • Best training initiative (joint winners): Metropolitan Police and Surrey County Council
  • Best fire safety engineering project: Exova Warrington for Crossrail Whitechapel station
  • Best installation company—active fire protection: Fire Design Solutions
  • Best installation company—passive fire protection: Hillmoore
  • Best fire safety manager: Neeraj Dubey, Vadinar Oil Terminal
  • Best export achievement: Fire Fighting Enterprises
