by Brianna Crandall — June 11, 2014—The winners of the 2014 Best of NeoCon Competition were announced June 9 at an awards breakfast hosted by Contract magazine on the first day of the NeoCon contract furnishings show, held at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. NeoCon is considered North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors, and is annually attended by over 40,000 architecture and design and FM professionals and specifiers.
Celebrating its 25th year, the prestigious Best of NeoCon Competition honors new commercial interiors products that are introduced to the market during NeoCon in 43 categories ranging from Architectural and Decorative Glass to Workplace Technologies. About 50 jurors who are interior designers, architects, and facilities management professionals review approximately 350 products over the three days before NeoCon begins.
The Best of NeoCon Competition is sponsored by Contract magazine, McMorrow Report, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). All the Best of NeoCon entries and categories are viewable on the Contract Network site.
The Best of Competition Award was presented to Haworth for the Openest Collection by Studio Urquiola. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the Openest Collection is described as an ensemble of lounge furniture that responds to the ever-evolving nature of work (i.e., increased mobility and collaboration) by facilitating the new landscape of today’s work environments. The solution was also the Gold Award winner for Collaborative Collections, a new category created for this year’s competition.
