by Brianna Crandall — October 11, 2013—The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) recently launched a Good Practice Guide (GPG) on Recycling and Waste Management that analyzes the key drivers and principles behind the crucial requirement for FMs to implement best practices in recycling and waste management for their organizations. Sponsored by Waste Cost Reduction Services Ltd (WCRS), the guide is the latest addition to BIFM’s knowledge portfolio, which aims to raise standards and professionalism in facilities management.
Tony Windsor, managing director of Waste Cost Reduction Services, said, “Recycling and waste management has undoubtedly become an increasingly complex area of facilities management. We recognize that every business has different corporate values, cost constraints, waste streams, storage and collection requirements, and we have worked with the BIFM to outline the key principles of good practice in recycling and waste management with this in mind.”
Users of this Recycling and Waste Management GPG can expect to gain an understanding of what is driving improvements in waste management, and the principles of good practice including compliance, health and safety, auditing and communication. Ultimately, the guide helps users solidify their commitments to the environment and sustainability while businesses can also use it to support their corporate social responsibility.
The Recycling and Waste Management GPG is part of BIFM’s efforts to help FM professionals deliver outstanding facilities management and define best practice in sustainability. FM professionals can access practical tips and considerations for improving their recycling, manage their risk, and guard their organization’s reputation. The guide gives users an understanding of the impact of wasted resources on the natural, economic and social environments and ultimately, how to mitigate the impact to deliver positive outcomes.
BIFM members can access the new Recycling and Waste Management GPG at no charge as part of their membership benefits. FM professionals who are not BIFM members can purchase GPGs for £19.99 through a BIFM Order Form .
BIFM’s Good Practice Guides provide real “how to” information on a range of topics to help FM professionals with their day-to-day roles and to build effective strategic FM practice.
