BIFM launches level 5 extended diploma in facilities management

by Brianna Crandall — August 31, 2013—The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) recently announced that it has launched the BIFM Level 5 Extended Diploma in Facilities Management to further promote professionalism in the FM industry, particularly in the U.K.

This addition joins the suite of BIFM Qualifications in Facilities Management, all of which are approved by the industry’s sector skills council, Asset Skills, and are accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Linda Hausmanis, Head of Awarding Organisation at BIFM, said, “The new Level 5 Extended Diploma in FM has been developed in response to the changes in the Apprenticeship (SASE) requirements. It now requires a qualification at Level 5 to have a minimum of 90 credits. It was agreed to develop a qualification with 120 credits which not only meets the new SASE requirements, but will also bring it in line with the requirements of Higher Education Institutes.”

Delivered through BIFM recognized centers, the Level 5 Extended Diploma in Facilities Management is suitable for FM professionals working at a middle or senior management level who have multifaceted responsibilities. The extended diploma, however, is also suitable for those aspiring to these roles and looking to stretch and develop themselves, notes BIFM.

After studying the six mandatory units and achieving credits from the wide range of optional units, BIFM says that the learner will have an extensive range of skills, knowledge and understanding at this level.
