by Shane Henson — August 14, 2013—The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the professional body for facilities management in the United Kingdom, has added two new publications to its list of Good Practice Guides (GPGs): Benchmarking and Space Planning and Management.
Benchmarking offers facilities managers an opportunity to demonstrate added value to the organizations they represent, regardless of whether they are in-house personnel, consultants or service providers, notes BIFM. Benchmarking explains what benchmarking is, and several ways to go about it, and provides top tools tips and techniques while highlighting the benefits to be derived from its use as part of a structured process of continuous improvement.
Space Planning and Management is a long-term strategic asset for business and facilities managers’ understanding of space management and its importance in supporting an organization’s objectives. The guide Space Planning and Management provides practical guidance on the tools and techniques that can be deployed. It also clearly illustrates what is involved in managing and changing space, enabling users to set overarching space management strategies for an organization, says BIFM.
In addition to these two guides, facilities managers in and outside of the U.K. can find a number of publications within BIFM’s Good Practice Guide portfolio to increase their knowledge in key areas related to facilities management.
“The GPGs have consistently been identified in the BIFM membership survey as a key member benefit,” says Jacqueline Gillman, product development manager at BIFM. “The guides are written by facilities management experts and provide guidance on core topics and specialist issues within FM.”
