BIFM, SAFMA, ABRAFAC take home Global FM awards for excellence

by Brianna Crandall — November 7, 2012—Global FM, the Global Facility Management Association, announced the winners of the third annual Global FM Awards for Excellence in Facilities Management on October 31 at the International Facility Management Association’s (IFMA) World Workplace Conference and Expo 2012. The awards are intended to recognize the “best-of-the-best” within the FM world, and to give valuable worldwide recognition to recipients for their commitment and success in promoting and enhancing facilities management practices. Award recipients demonstrated the value of their innovations and/or improvements to the community through sustainable outcomes in the FM industry.

The four Global FM Awards for Excellence in FM winners are:

Platinum Award winners

  • Stuart Cranna, Workplace Area Manager, KPMG, KPMG Gold—15 Canada Square, submitted by BIFM, and
  • Mike Mackay, Serco Healthcare Enabling Services, in partnership with Forth Health and NHS Forth Valley (NHSFV), Forth Valley Royal Hospital, submitted by BIFM

Gold Award winner

  • Yasmin Abdul Ahmed, Woolworths, Grey Water Usage, submitted by SAFMA

Silver Award winner

  • Eduardo Barbosa, Hines Gerenciamento de Propriedades, Best Practices Hines, submitted by ABRAFAC

For the second consecutive year BIFM, the British Institute of Facilities Management, scooped the top award—but this time with both their submissions, which tied for first place. For the first time ever, the submission from SAFMA, the South African FM Association, was recognized with the Gold Award. And ABRAFAC, the Brazilian FM Association, was reportedly very pleased to be once again among the awards winners, with ABRAFAC President Marcos Maran stating that the award “will leverage facilities management in Brazil to the highest pattern of quality.”

This was the first time Global FM has announced the winners of the awards during a physical event. Global FM Chairperson Teena Shouse expressed congratulations to the winners and nominees, saying, “I wish to share my sincere congratulations and warm regards to all of the individuals and organizations who were nominated and considered for this recognition. The sole purpose of these awards is to continue to elevate the profession through the sharing of FM excellence. Congrats to the winners and I only ask that you continue to share with the world your wisdom and commitment to making FM the most respected profession on the globe.”
