Bilfinger expands facilities services presence in U.K., Ireland with acquisition of Europa Support Services

by Shane Henson — January 10, 2014—Bilfinger, an international engineering and services group based in Germany, is working to cement its position as a major player in Europe’s booming facilities services market through its acquisition of Europa Support Services.

According to Bilfinger, Europa Support Services is one of the leading providers of technical, infrastructural and integrated facilities management services in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. As a result of its broad positioning as a fully integrated service provider, Europa Support Services reportedly has a strong competitive position in its markets.

Europa Support Services delivers a substantial share of its services with its own qualified personnel, currently employing about 3,300 people. On this basis, longstanding customer relationships have been established with renowned companies such as United Utilities, intu (formerly Capital Shopping Centres), Liverpool Victoria and Esso. This is a business model that fits in perfectly with the strategy of Bilfinger Facility Services, says Bilfinger.

Through the acquisition of Europa Support Services, Bilfinger expects to be able to successfully position itself in the competition for large contracts with internationally active companies in Europe, and expects to be able to expand its annual output volume in the British and Irish facilities services business from 35 million to 215 million.

The further internationalization of the facilities services business also reportedly opens up important strategic options for Bilfinger, with its 70,000 employees. Major international clients increasingly expect their service providers to be in a position to manage their real estate portfolios across national borders from a single source, Bilfinger notes.
