by Ann Withanee — September 19, 2011—Beginning March 15, 2012, new construction and alterations must meet the 2010 ADA Standards Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was revised and adopted by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2010. To explain the new requirements and its revised Title III, BOMA International has issued a revised ADA guidebook, described as the most up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of the new ADA.

The Guide to the 2010 ADA Standards will assist property professionals and facilities executives in understanding and implementing the revised Americans with Disabilities Act. The new guidebook contains updated requirements for accessible routes and a variety of building elements, including employee work spaces, restrooms, reach ranges, sales and service counters, stairways, telephones, special rooms and spaces, recreation facilities and much more.

Property owners and facilities executives must be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to assure equal opportunity to all persons. Public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation are among areas where ADA compliance is mandatory.

The new guide is a follow-up to BOMA’s 1991 ADA Compliance Guidebook: A Checklist for Your Building, the 1992 ADA Answer Book and the BOMA ADA Compliance System, and the 2003 Guide to ADA & Accessibility Regulations.

A copy of Guide to the 2010 ADA Standards is available electronically through BOMA International. Member price is $49.95; non-member price is $59.95. Instructions for its purchase and a License Agreement are detailed on the organization’s Web site.
