by Shane Henson — July 5, 2013—The commercial real estate industry honored 14 commercial properties this month with The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards at the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s annual conference in San Diego.

The winners were recognized for excellence in office building management and operations in specific categories of building size or type ranging from historic buildings to buildings with more than 500,000 square feet of space. To win an International TOBY Award, a property first must win both local and regional competitions, says BOMA. Judging is based on community impact, tenant/employee relations programs, energy management systems, accessibility for disabled people, emergency evacuation procedures, building personnel training programs, and overall quality indicators. A team of expert industry professionals also conducted comprehensive building inspections.
